Ahluwalia at the Met Gala 2025

Gabby Thomas and Aimee Lou Wood wear custom Ahluwalia for the 2025 Met Gala.

This year marked Ahluwalia’s debut at the Met Gala, a historic moment grounded in cultural storytelling, design, and collaboration. Under the theme Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, Creative Director Priya Ahluwalia designed two custom looks that honoured the complexity and richness of the Black diaspora through modern tailoring and deeply personal detail.

Olympic medalist Gabby Thomas wore a hand-embellished silk gown in jewelled red. The look paid tribute to her Southern roots, athletic grace, and the enduring elegance of 1920s Black style — from Harlem Renaissance tailoring to Josephine Baker–inspired movement. Over 10,000 beads and crystals traced the curves of her silhouette, including a custom pattern inspired by the track lanes she commands so effortlessly.

BAFTA-winning actor Aimee Lou Wood wore a tailored ensemble inspired by the revolutionary spirit of the Congolese Dandy subculture. With flower motifs honouring both Nigeria and Congo, sculptural silk lapels, and heritage-inspired Cartier brooches.

Both designs reflect Ahluwalia’s commitment to design, heritage, and storytelling through clothing, values informed by Priya Ahluwalia’s dual Nigerian-Indian background and the global narratives that shape her vision.
