The ‘Africa is Limitless’ show makeup is informed by the paintings of Toyin Ojih Odutola and black and white photography from around the diaspora. There is a focus on smooth skin and highlighted areas, reflecting Creative Director, Priya Ahluwalia’s desire to put African skin on a pedestal. There are small decorative details such as gems and face jewellery on some looks, which is reflective of the women in Senegal and Libya and portrays regal status.
Award Winning Makeup Artist and consultant, Mata Mariélle shares how you can get the show look. "Buy face gems at any art and craft store. Brush your brows out using a spoolie and gummy brow gels, for edge control, then apply a full coverage concealer, or any kind of matte textured base to the brow.” The aim is to make the hairs invisible, before applying gems using Duo lash glue, stocked at Boots and Superdrug. “This won’t remove any eyebrow hairs, I promise... they add the perfect amount of pizazz. I’d even make the gems a navy blue — very fab".
